I was so sad to hear of Don's passing. He and Gloria (and Tracey and Jason) were so much a part of my life so many years ago. My friendship with Gloria began when Gloria and I started kindergarten at Victoria School in 1955, and then in later years when she and Don moved back to the house where Gloria grew up across from my childhood home on Hincks Street. (The house that Keith Briscoe built now stands on the location where the snow sculptures in the attached photo were built.)
Don, Jason and I created the snowman on a mild March day when Tracey and Jason were still quite young. It was Jason's idea to make the dog after we had finished the mermaid. Jason and Don completed the work after I left to attend my music lesson with Sister Cecelia. I was so surprised to see it when I came home that I somehow managed to get a picture of it. (Keeping in mind that this was in the days before cell phones and digital cameras!) I talked to Don on the phone shortly after Gloria had passed away, and then I lost all contact with him. Don and Gloria were good friends and fun neighbours and we shared lots of good times together.
Time moves on. I was prompted to see if I could contact Don to send him this picture that I came across just a few days ago, and was sad to see that he had passed away. I send my condolences to Jason and his family and to Don's second wife and family. I haven't seen Jason since he was about five years old, so I send my heartfelt greetings to him and his family, as well! I grieved with the family when I heard that Gloria and Tracey had passed away, even though we had been out of touch for many years.
And thank you Orla, Debbie and others for the lovely condolences you posted. I had forgotten that Orla and Gloria were such good friends. And Debbie too. You were such a sweetie in your younger years, Debbie, and I presume you still are!
So many good memories from growing up in Renfrew come to mind.

Dear Donny, where do I start? I've known you my whole life. Your wife Gloria was my best friend growing up. I was in your bridal party. You both were such a HUGE part of my growing up in Renfrew. I can't even count the number of times I was in Jim's Restaurant with you and we'd joke and laugh and have such a good time. All the nights at the drive-in with our friends. Seeing you have your children, watching them grow up. I miss those days. So much laughter and happiness. I will never forget you Don. I couldn't possibly. You and Gloria are a permanent etching on my heart. My deepest condolences to all the Doucet family. Rest in Peace now my friend.

Dear Murielle, Donna and Maryanne and extended family sending condolences and hugs to you all. Donnie will be missed by many. I have lots of fond memories of when we were all neighbours growing up in Barnet Sub and when he volunteered at Sport Renfrew and how he loved to play his guitar. He’s now reunited with his beautiful daughter. (Hope you’re having a great jamming session up there my friend). R.I.P. Donnie
