Obituary of Lillian Joan Kassell (Daly)

B.A M.Ed, 25 year teaching professor at the University of Ottawa. Recipient of the National Hilroy Award for innovation programs. Peacefully on Saturday May 28, 2022 in Ottawa at the age of 83. Dear Mom of Jane Daly (Andrew O'Neil). Predeceased by her son Michael Daly. Proud grandma of Brigit (Ben) and Emilie (Greg) and dear great-grandma of Holiday (Dollie). Lillian was predeceased by her siblings Vera Kowalchuck and Luba Check. In the late 60s Lillian, along with some other Ottawa parents, started one of the first alternative schools in the city. Lillian also helped create the very first high school special education journalism program in Ontario, as well as a drug and alcohol addiction resource program in Ottawa high schools that was recognized by and received an award from Nancy Reagan. Working in education was always her passion and as time went on she became very passionate about helping people with addiction issues. When she retired to her home in Burnstown on the Madawaska River, she found true peace and happiness. Her niece Carolyn had always had a home on Calabogie Lake and Lillian fell in love with the community as well. Her family would spend summers with her and she loved nothing more than watching her granddaughters swim and boat on the river. Painting and art had always been a love for her as she was a natural talent but it became a passion after she retired. She loved the artistic community in Renfrew and was always happiest when looking at, talking about or buying Art from her friends. The things that Lillian loved most were her family, her friends and art. Renfrew and the community was where she found the her friends and art community. Renfrew was where she felt loved and at home. Her family is grateful to everyone who loved Lillian. Visitations at the Goulet Funeral Home, 310 Argyle St. S., Renfrew, Wednesday June 1st: 9 - 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Renfrew on Wednesday June 1, 2022 at 10:30 am with cremation to follow.
