Obituary of Noreene Rita Adam

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear mother and Grammie, Noreene Rita Adam at Hospice Renfrew, in her 81st year on Friday May 10, 2024. Noreene was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 53 years, Claude. She leaves behind her three amazing children: Kevin (Leigh-Anne) of Renfrew, Kirby of Pembroke, and Michelle (Chris) of Arnprior. Grammie will be dearly missed by her loving grandkids: Jarren (Stephanie), Emmett, Caeden, Shayne, Jack and Laura.

Noreene was born and raised in Pendleton, Ontario. After high school, she moved to Ottawa to pursue her dreams of becoming a nurse. She took  her caring and compassionate ways on the road to work in Kenora and Winnipeg, before returning to the Ottawa area and settling down. In June of 1970, she met a handsome bachelor-farmer named Claude and they were married four short months later in October.  She moved on to the farm with him and they went on to have three kids. When she returned to work, she was a visiting nurse and a case manger with Paramed until she began working with pediatric patients as a case manager with CCAC. Throughout her working-life and after retirement, Noreene was a community advocate with Community Living. She took part in many steering committees and groups, fighting for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities, helping them to live fulfilling, independent lives with appropriate supports.

Noreene humbly triumphed over four separate cancers even as she continued her noble work to dismantle systemic barriers for people with intellectual disabilities. She drew strength from her faith and was selfless in her commitment to her community, never hesitating to answer a need or a call for assistance. Her contributions to the lives she touched will continue to live on; she has truly left this world a better place than she found it.

As her family, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pinard and the amazing staff and volunteers at Hospice Renfrew. Their
compassion and attention to her needs and ours during her brief stay will not be easily forgotten. Mom was a very religious woman whose faith only grew stronger as more obstacles blocked her path. She gained strength and moved forward on her final journey with prayers and support from Father Brennan and Father Kenny.

Visitation will be held at the Goulet Funeral Home, 310 Argyle St. S Renfrew on Tuesday May 14th, from 4-8pm only.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 86 Lacroix Bay Road Whitewater Region on Wednesday May 15th at 1:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Living Pembroke or to Hospice Renfrew
