Obituary of Barbara Anne White

It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that Barbara Anne from Almonte, a young and brilliant lawyer died on Monday morning September 9, 2024 (Her Grandma Essie’s birthday) surrounded with love and prayer at Hospice Renfrew after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on December 6, 1967 in Ottawa, the only daughter of Melvin White and Anne (nee Dobec), Renfrew.  Much loved sister of Christopher (Stittsville) and an exceptional aunt, deeply cherished by her nephew, Matthew, and her niece Vanessa. She brought joy and love to their lives, creating lasting memories especially theatre that they will forever treasure.

Greatly missed by aunts, uncles and cousins in Ontario and Cape Breton especially, Ursula (William Holmes) Oakland, California and Father Patrick M. Dobec, Petawawa. Also survived by friends and law colleagues in Toronto and in Western Canada.

She was predeceased by grandparents Martin and Esther (nee Kiely) Dobec, Renfrew, and Hattie and Melvin White of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and Uncle Greg Dobec, Belleville.

Barb was raised in the idyllic town of Almonte, Ontario where she developed strong values and a passion for learning especially from her mother who was a profound influence in her life, not only as an educator but a cherished friend.

She was an exceptional student, excelling academically throughout her life.  A brilliant graduate of St. Mary’s School and an Honour Student of Almonte District High School. Her academic achievements were evident at Queen’s University, Kingston with further awards, where she further honed her passion for law.  In 1994 she graduated from Queen’s University, Faculty of Law, Cum Laude

Outside her profession, she found joy in the International Film Festival, feline pets and quality time with family and friends. Her warmth, intelligence and kindness will be deeply missed by all her knew her.

Family and friends are invited to honour Barb and family during a visitation to be held at the Goulet Funeral Home, 310 Argyle Street, South, Renfrew, Ontario on Saturday morning September 14th from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated in the Church of Saint Francis Xavier, 339 Plaunt St. Renfrew on Saturday morning, September 14th at 11 o’clock with her Godfather, Reverend Patrick M. Dobec and Reverend Kerry J. Brennan P.P. presiding. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Interment in the Dobec Family Plot, Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery at a later date.
