Obituary of Mervyn Bernard Stubinsky

(Co-owner of the Black Donald Tent and Trailer Park)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a devoted Husband, Dad, Papa and Brother.  Mervyn of Black Donald and Calabogie was the Beloved Husband, friend and guide of Ann (Norton).  Loving father of John (Krista) and Janice.  Proud papa of Hunter, Lily, Abby and Beth.  Brother to Ruth Elliott (late Vincent), Late Bert, Jim (Wanda).  Son of the late Albert Stubinsky and Mary Leclaire.  Dear brother-in law of the late Bernard (Alma), Jack, Beverly (Gary James). Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

We all knew this man as a hardworking, gentle soul.  He was born and raised in Black Donald and chose to give his own family the same way of life.  Building his tent and trailer park to be what it is today gave opportunity for work, responsibility, appreciation and great friendship for himself, Ann, John and Janice and his grandchildren.  He spent many early mornings and long days venturing by snowmobile, four wheeler and simply by foot for trapping, hunting or fishing.  His favorites that still involved work but was a break from the business.  Most often if you popped in to visit, he could be found puttering in the shop, listening to an old radio station.  As a bystander it was a huge building filled to the brim with what seemed to be everything he owned in his lifetime, but if you needed something he had it and knew exactly where it was to lend out.  Although he was a quiet man with few words, he always had a way with them, he looked to make anyone around him crack a smile or laugh out loud with his witty one liners.  As he told one of his many stories, you couldn’t help but hold on to every word.  With each detail you could see in his eyes the memories he recalled.

When he poked fun or joked at your expense, it was his way of saying he cared for you and thank you for listening.  We didn’t get to have the best of Mervyn the last few years.  His true character left us too soon.  However, he was here to love, here to be a Papa and will always be here in our memories of a gentleman who loved the outdoors, took nothing for granted and always lived his life surround by family.

Visitation will be held at the Goulet Funeral Home, 310 Argyle St, S, Renfrew on Monday December 18th from 2-4, 7-9 pm and after  9am Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Precious Blood Church, Calabogie on Tuesday December 19th at 11:00am.  Interment Most Precious Blood Cemetery.  Donations in Mervyn's memory may be made to Royal Ottawa Hospital, Renfrew Victoria Hospital or Hospice Renfrew.
