Obituary of David Dean Goodrich Macdonald

DAVID DEAN GOODRICH MACDONALD

Peacefully at Caressant Care, Cobden, Ontario on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the age of 78. An award-winning journalist, editor and photographer, Dave’s second career saw him contributing to leading arts organizations across North America.  He was a deeply committed member of Alcoholics Anonymous and helped countless people through his example and support.  Passions in his life were his children and grandchildren above all else, playing the trumpet, golfing, worldwide travel and his Ottawa Senators.

Dave held a fully positive outlook, was exceptionally kind, patient and gentle and was able to see the beauty in everything around him.

He was a loving husband of Melanie Macdonald for 46 years.  Dear son of the late Dr. Dean Macdonald and the late Claire Macdonald. Dear father of Joseph (Krystina Mierins) Macdonald and Lucia (Daniel) Tracey. Loving Gramps to Ethan, Talia, Owen and Fiametta.  Dear brother of Dean (Brigitte) Macdonald.  Predeceased by sister Wendy (Joe) Furgal.  Dear brother-in-law of Doug & Sonia Theobalds. Loving uncle of Corey, Maxine, Emma, Michael, Mary-Jo, Sharon, Paul, Lisa and Brian.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday evening, April 10th from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Crown and Kilt, adjacent to The Rocky Mountain House Restaurant, 409 Stewart Street, Renfrew, Ontario.

A service to honour and remember Dave will be held at Trinity St. Andrew’s United Church, 291 Plaunt Street South, Renfrew, Ontario at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 11th.  A gathering will be held after the service.

Donations in Dave’s memory may be made to any branch of The Alzheimer’s Society.  Online condolences and donations may be made at www.gouletfuneralhome.com

AA Meditation for April 6th:

“God irradiates your life with the warmth of His spirit.  You must open up like a flower to this divine irradiation.  Loosen your hold on earth, its cares and its worries.  Unclasp your hold on material things, relax your grip, and the tide of peace and serenity will flow in.  Relinquish every material thing and receive it back again from God.  Do not hold on to earth’s treasures so firmly that your hands are too occupied to clasp God’s hands as He holds them out to you in love.”
